Highlands High School, a large suburban public school, prepares graduates for college or a career. Enrollment includes a population of five percent minority students and 12 percent students identified as economically disadvantaged.
Highlands High School offers 26 Advanced Placement courses; 70 percent of its students enroll in AP classes. Students may also enroll in dual credit courses through Western Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky.
Students can join a multitude of interscholastic and intramural sports teams and clubs.
The Cum Laude Society honors students who excel in academics. Highlands is the only public high school in Kentucky to have a chapter of the Cum Laude Society.
The U.S. Department of Education recognized Highlands High School as a Blue Ribbon School.
Students who live outside the school district can apply and pay tuition to attend Highlands High School. Admissions criteria include grade point average, test scores, school-based behavior, school attendance and special talents, affiliations, awards and achievements.
